How HYSD Bars and TMT Bars Were Developed<\/b><\/p>\n

Long before the TMT versus HYSD arguments had begun, mild steel bars were the preferred tool for small scale construction. However, they were difficult to strengthen, so HYSD (High Yielding Strength Deformed) bars were created by <\/span>the mechanical twisting of the steel bars right after casting. Unfortunately, this resulted in surface flaws, which decreased the overall strength resistance of HYSD bars. To combat this, TMT (Thermo Mechanical Treatment<\/a>) bars were developed through a process which used heat treatment and mechanical deformation to increase tensile strength, weldability, and stress resistance, through the creation of martensite.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why TMT Bars are Better than HYSD Bars\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

While HYSD bars provided a much-needed replacement for mild steel bars, their surface flaws leading to a lack of strength resistance and susceptibility to wear and tear, has made TMT bars a much better option. Here\u2019s why!<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Strength and Corrosion Resistant: TMT bars have no surface flaws, compared to HYSD bars, because the manufacturing process does not involve twisting or torsional stress. The martensite external layer makes TMT bars more strength resistant and less prone to wear and tear – even in construction that is exposed to the elements.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Supports Innovative Architectural Design: TMT bars are more ductile than HYSD bars. This results in greater flexibility allowing more room for innovative designing of a structure.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Cost Efficient: The higher load-bearing capacity of TMT bars, means less bars are required during construction, thereby cutting down costs.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Earthquake Resistant: High tensile strength, flexibility, and the capability to withstand sudden loads, make TMT bars well-suited for zones with high seismic activity.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Eco-friendly: TMT bars don\u2019t have to go through extra hardening processes, which saves energy. Compared to HYSD bars, TMT bars use 8% to 11% less steel, saving our precious resources, and reducing transportation costs.<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Fire Resistant: TMT bars can withstand temperatures of 400 to 600 degrees Celsius.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
